Serena Tom
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Serena grew up with a love for ballet, dance and movement. She holds a B.A. in Honors Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in the marketing and advertising industry finding yoga as a means to de-stress from the pressures of the corporate world. Over time, she realized her true love for yoga and fitness, along with the desire to inspire and serve others. Serena completed the 200-Hour Pure Yoga Teacher Training and the 200-Hour Pure Yoga Mentorship Program, where she apprenticed under Kay Kay Clivio. To deepen her understanding of yoga, she completed the prestigious Advanced 300-Hour Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training with world-renowned yoga teachers Sharon Gannon, David Life, Jeffrey Cohen and Jules Febre. Serena is also a certified Pilates Mat instructor with Power Pilates. Rated as one of the 50 Hottest Female Trainers in America 2014 by Shape Magazine, Serena has also been featured in Health Magazine, Shape, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Well+Good, Hypebae, Furthermore, The Wall Street Journal, The Fashion Spot, W Magazine, Yahoo Beauty, and BuzzFeed. Serena has been featured in online videos for Qinetic and Yahoo Health and has taught for Nike, the Nike Training Club, JP Morgan Chase, Credit Suisse, Alo Yoga, and Well+Good. Serena is an Ambassador and Yoga Teacher for Alo Yoga. You can currently find her teaching in New York City, where her class style is based on the Jivamukti, Ashtanga and Vinyasa teachings. Combining power and flexibility with movement, dynamic and intelligent sequencing, along with bandhas and breath to calm the mind and energize the body, Serenaโs students find the path of yoga to heal themselves physically and emotionally and seek personal fulfillment in their lives.
